1. Hanna Moon Launches MAMMA, HANNA, MARTINA Book Collaboration at Frieze London

M.A.P are excited to announce the launch of an extraordinary book project, a collaboration between Hanna Moon, renowned Swedish artist Mamma Andersson and photographer Martina Hoogland Ivanow at Frieze London on Friday October 3rd, 2019.

One of Scandinavia’s most significant artists, Mamma Andersson has collaborated on a book with the team behind SPACE Magazine and its publishers MOON, launching in Fall 2019. Mamma Anderson remains for many an enigma. The artist rarely gives interviews or talks about her pro-cess. Made over a one-year period, the new book, entitled MAMMA, HANNA, MARTINA, has been developed by Andersson and SPACE as a new method of investigating an artist’s working life. It takes the form of a series of encounters and close-ups, part-monograph, part-magazine.

Born in 1962, Mamma Andersson lives and works in Stockholm, creating canvases with a suspenseful cine-matic feel and dreamlike expressive compositions. Acclaimed for its psychological depth, the work is imbued with mystery and a certain strangeness, often referencing folk art and poetry. The new book is an examination of Andersson’s recent body of paintings.

Hanna Moon, the artist, photographer and creative interlocutor, joins Andersson as she installs a career-de-fining solo show at the Bienal de São Paulo, Brazil. The resulting 40-page photo essay integrates Hanna Moon’s personal narratives into Mamma’s world.

In Sweden, the artist and photographer Martina Hoogland Ivanow, a friend of Andersson, documents the island of Gotland, where Karin Mamma Andersson (“Mamma” is a nickname she picked up at college) has lived and worked for the past decade. The result is a dark opaque visual universe.

In a fascinating series of meetings revealing new insights, the curator and art director Greger Ulf Nilson, another long-time friend of Andersson, discusses art, death and family with the artist.

MAMMA, HANNA, MARTINA, is published by MOON, Moon-international.com. The book will be launched exclu-sively with Galleri Bo Bjerggaard in Copenhagen, Ganni in Copenhagen and London, Stephen Friedman Gallery in London, Gallery David Zwirner in New York, Galleri Magnus Karlsson in Stockholm, Yvon Lambert book store in Paris, and Andreas Murkudis in Berlin. Distribution is handled globally by Antenne Books.
