Christian MacDonald


Christian MacDonald began his photographic career as a teenager in California, before moving to New York where he learnt his craft assisting legendary photographer Steven Meisel. With his degree from the Film Department of Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, and his study of analog darkroom techniques, he brings a deep understanding of how to orchestrate the visual world into his editorial and advertising work. MacDonald’s photographs convey an intense sense of place and the heightened moment of photographic engagement with his subject—always bridging the divide between fashion and portrait photography. His images range from elegantly pared down studio portraits were the subtlest gestures declare the character of the sitter to on-location, cinematic narratives. He has created editorial photographs for magazines including Another ManDior Magazine, i-DInterview, WSJ. MagazineBritish Vogue, Vogue Italia, Vogue Nippon, and Vogue Paris. His advertising clients include Barneys New YorkCalvin Klein, CoachDKNYH&M, Hugo Boss, MonclerNikeTopshop, Versace and Zara.
